Common Items That Might Be Cluttering Your Kitchen (And How to Tackle Them)

By Krystal Kitchens, Basingstoke, Hampshire

At Krystal Kitchens in Basingstoke, we know that even the most beautifully designed kitchens can  quickly feel overwhelmed by clutter. If your kitchen feels a little too busy, it might be time to take a  closer look at what’s filling your drawers, countertops, and cupboards.

Here are some of the most common culprits that could be cluttering your kitchen — and a few  simple tips to reclaim your space!

1. Old or Duplicate Utensils

How many wooden spoons, spatulas, or whisks do you really need?

It’s easy to accumulate duplicates over the years, but they take up valuable drawer space. Keep your  favourites and donate or recycle the rest.

Tip: Invest in a good-quality organiser to keep essential utensils easily accessible and neatly  arranged.

2. Expired Pantry Items

Cans, jars, packets — they tend to hide at the back of the cupboard long after their use-by dates  have passed.

A cluttered pantry makes meal planning harder and wastes precious storage space.

Tip: Do a pantry sweep every few months and organise food into clear zones (like baking,  breakfast, snacks, etc.).

3.Unused Small Appliances

Waffle makers, juicers, old blenders… if it’s been gathering dust for over a year, it might not  deserve that prime countertop or cupboard space.

Tip: Only keep out the appliances you use weekly. Store occasional-use gadgets out of sight, or  consider selling/donating those you rarely touch.

4.Takeaway Containers and Water Bottles

We all mean to reuse them — but before long, cupboards overflow with mismatched lids and stacks  of plastic.

Tip: Keep a limited number of quality containers that you genuinely use and recycle the rest.

5. Cookbooks You Rarely Open

Cookbooks are beautiful, but how often do you use them? A collection can quickly dominate a shelf  or counter.

Tip: Keep a small, curated selection of your favourites. Move the others to a bookshelf elsewhere  or donate them.

6.Random “Junk Drawer” Items

We’re all guilty of tossing keys, batteries, notepads, and random bits into a kitchen drawer. Left  unchecked, it becomes a black hole of clutter.

Tip: Add dividers to your junk drawer and commit to clearing it out once a month. Better yet, create  a dedicated station elsewhere for non-kitchen items.

7.Excessive Decorative Pieces

A vase here, a figurine there — it all adds up. While personal touches make a kitchen feel warm, too  many can make it feel chaotic.

Tip: Choose a few meaningful or beautiful decor items and keep the rest stored for seasonal  rotation.

At Krystal Kitchens, our kitchen designs are all about helping you enjoy a space that’s stylish,

practical, and clutter-free.

Whether you’re redesigning your kitchen from scratch or simply looking for smarter storage  solutions, our friendly experts are here to help with free design consultations.
